Human Resources Assistant

 

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources this part-time (0.5 FTE), position provides administrative and clerical support to the HR department, including recruitment, training, HRIS, compensation and benefits, labour relations, employee recognition, report preparation, and leave administration. The position also provides front-line and HR transactional support to employees, as well as triages and escalates issues as required.

The Ideal Candidate

You have high school graduation supplemented by a Human Resources certificate or Diploma plus at least one year of experience in a human resources position. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered. You strive to exceed expectations and are a team player. You are innovative, detail oriented and resourceful.

Technical Competencies

  • Good knowledge of office administration procedures and working knowledge of Human Resources practices.
  • Working knowledge of departmental operations, programs, services, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of human resource information systems (HRIS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated accuracy in keyboarding, proofreading, spelling, punctuation, grammar with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service to all levels of stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels and relevant external contacts.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to organize a heavy workload, identify and set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, balance changing priorities, and effectively accommodate changing situations.
  • Provides back up coverage for the Director of HR.
  • Proficiency in typing and data entry.
