Our play spaces are vast and take into consideration of the developmental needs of children.

The IB Programme is well-established at our school. Many of our faculty are IB Academy Trainers. Instructional excellence is supported by IB Coordinators (0.5 FTE) & Continuum Director of Teaching & Learning. We are an IB World Continuum School. Meadowridge School seeks a visionary, passionate, organized and hard-working Social Emotional Counsellor. The position is salaried and full-time (1.0 FTE). Job Summary:

This role will work closely with our students, families and staff across the JK - 12 age range, alongside our Principals, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Post-Secondary Counsellors. The SEL Counsellor will develop programs to provide support, guidance, and direction for teachers and parents to support all students in the areas of wellness, social and emotional development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following:
● Plan collaboratively with students, their families, teachers, administrators and community agency personnel to develop effective strategies to promote the educational, wellness, social, and emotional development of students (JK-12).
● Coordinate and develop a curriculum and delivery model for our sexual health education component of our curriculum
● Provide a continuum of services of preventive, developmental, remedial and intervention services and programs within the school environment.
● Triage and refer students to appropriate community resources.
● Report or assist with reports to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
● Ameliorating factors which may precipitate problems for students.
● Provide appropriate interventions to assist students with school related problems and issues.
● Provide in-service and support to teachers in the area of counselling skills, youth mental health and provide updated information to school staff about Child Abuse Prevention on an annual basis.
● Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and advisors to advance students’ educational achievement through executive functioning skill development and goal setting.
● Supporting and developing programs to help address wellness issues including social media, stress management, and sleep deprivation.
● Supporting educational programming related to child development
● Assist with the development of students’ learning plans as well activities that promote effective work and study habits.
● Present instructional/informational programs to groups of students, parents and teachers.
● Adhere to the ethical standards of the Counselling profession and practice in accordance with federal, provincial, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families; such as, child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights and privacy.
● Occasionally running parent education workshops and training teachers/ advisors in coaching and counselling skills.
● Assist parents and teachers in understanding and responding to developmental levels of students, acting as a liaison and resource to all parties.
● Promote a safe and caring school environment.
● Provide appropriate referrals to other support services and community resources.
● Attend student support meetings as necessary and act as a resource and support for students of concern.
● Be able to work within a flexible school schedule and available at other times to respond to emergencies and critical incidents.
● Carry out other school duties as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications:
● Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada.
● BC Teaching certificate
● Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff members, students, parents, and outside community agencies and partners.
● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
● A high degree of emotional intelligence and the ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
● A strong understanding of cross-cultural diversity.
● Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff /student privacy.
