The Opportunity
Meadowridge School requires an Operations Manager to be responsible for the strategic direction and leadership for the overall administrative operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Operations Manager is responsible for performing supervisory, administrative and professional duties in the operation of the School facilities. The Operations Manager plans, develops, and implements overall strategy for operational management to meet agreed upon organizational performance plans in the following areas: facilities maintenance and management, including custodial and grounds management, and transportation.
This individual focuses on a holistic approach to resource management with emphasis on sustainability strategies that link all operational areas.
Operational Effectiveness
- Identifies, establishes, and oversees the preventative maintenance program to ensure compliance with Meadowridge School and mandated safety regulations.
- Ensures building facilities are compliant with health and safety regulations including local fire codes, accessibility and other relevant building and maintenance legislation.
- Negotiate contracts and service agreements for third party suppliers or service providers.
- Manage and control departmental/operational expenditures within agreed budgets.
- Assesses operational issues relating to building operations and maintenance personnel.
- Manage, develop, and conduct performance reviews of direct reporting staff.
- Coordinates and assists in the recruitment, hiring, and training of candidates for buildings and grounds department.
- Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
- Identifies equipment requirements for the successful completion of assigned tasks for subordinate employees and obtains and allocates appropriate equipment accordingly.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and promote, industry standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethics.
- Collaboratively develops and evaluates a campus plan to manage traffic, including buses and deliveries.
- Management of facility rentals for all Meadowridge School building and grounds.
- Identifies staff development and training needs and recommends the allocation of training.
- Maintains inventory on equipment, supplies, and materials and requisitions supplies and materials.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Understand general business requirements and critical issues impacting the operational performance and reporting functions within an academic environment.
- Experience organizing and leading teams to respond to urgent operational demands.
- Experience developing and implementing effective and timely operational reporting systems.
- Experience with purchasing and materials management.
- Effectiveness in safety and productivity.
- Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation.
- Highly effective negotiation and conflict resolutions skills, with ability to maintain diplomacy.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License, and a safe driving record.
- Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and requirements for the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to interpret, communicate, implement, and enforce company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email.
